The. Best. Views. Ever. And a lovely well-equipped beach home. This is a truly great beach house. An upside down house, the views are just amazing, and the living-dining-kitchen arrangement is perfect. Sometimes it feels like there is nothing between you and the ocean (there is a small dune with a private path to the beach). The house has a very well-equipped kitchen, even for a serious cook. There is also a large table, perfect for eating and jigsaw puzzles, as well as two outdoor heavy teak tables and many great teak chairs on the deck, along with an umbrella, a drink cart, and other niceties. Nice additional pantry for storage and extra appliances and glassware as well as an extra mini-fridge. The living room is really nicely furnished with 3 comfy sofas and a great audio-video system. And well-chosen art and decor too.
But the very best thing about this place are the views through every window, upstairs and down. Because of the proximity to the beach (a 2 minute walk), from the great deck are unbelievably gorgeous views of both sunrise and sunset, since we have east, south, and west views. And in fact the north views are great too. The exterior and interior lighting is well done, and there are even USB ports in the kitchen. I have stayed many vacation places where the lighting is terrible and it's hard to find a place to plug in and recharge, Not so here! The 3 bedrooms are fully furnished, and comfortable, and the two downstairs bathrooms are both updated and work well with quality faucets and showers, etc. Lots of hot water on demand. Nice big laundry room too. It's an easy 20 minute drive to town, and a lovely bike ride - the Madaket bike paths are really well maintained. A terrific house in a perfect location. The homeowners are clear and communicative, and very quick to respond and helpful.” -

"I rented 'The Scallop' for family that was visiting for a long weekend this October and I can't say enough good things about our experience! The cottage was a perfect fit for a family of six, small enough to feel intimate yet large enough to not be cramped. The cottage's location is near perfect within yards of Madaket beach, views of Millie's bridge and the harbor, and short walking distance to Smith's Point and Jackson Point. In October Madaket's only restaurant, Millie's, is closed, but the house is equipped with everything you might need for cooking at home. There is even a rake and basket if you'd like to try your hand at scalloping in Madaket Harbor, which we did and loved (with a shellfish permit from the Town of course.) Another huge perk are the modern accessories provided for your use. The kids were thrilled to find a Google Chromecast and a bluetooth sound system. The sound system makes it easy to stream music from your phone without having to plug in and the Chromecast allows you to stream video, Netflix or HBOgo, from your phone or laptop. Having lived on Nantucket for awhile now, I've come to find myself loving the serenity of Madaket over the other areas of the island. If you're looking for the same, this rental is right for you." - October 2014

"My family of four stayed at his beach house this summer and it was great. The top floor is completely open with a living, dining and kitchen areas that look out at the ocean. Plus there is a walk-out deck. The three bedrooms work well on the ground floor. Easy walk to the beach with the wagon and beach chairs and toys that are available. Would recommend this property." - Jonathan Herlihy, September 2014

"Great ocean and sunset views! The house is in a quiet setting and has all the necessary amenities for a great beach vacation. Having stayed in town for many trips to Nantucket, the serenity of 'The Scallop' was a welcome change In addition to being close to beach, the house is a short walk to the shuttle bus and bike trails for trips around the island. Property was clean, well maintained and the owners were very helpful and quick to respond to questions. Our group loved it so much we are already looking forward to next year." - Rich Pettibone, July 2012
